Almost Home Hires New Executive Director

Almost Home is excited to announce that we have recently hired a new Executive Director to lead our organization into the future. Please join us in welcoming, Shawna Miller to our family. Shawna comes to us with an extensive background and passion for helping the homeless. We are excited to see the fresh new ideas she can bring to our organization to help us better serve our clients.

Shawna received a bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver in Behavioral Science with a minor in Accounting, and a master’s degree from Walden University in Cultural Psychology. While acquiring hours towards a certification in addiction counseling by volunteering at the Denver Rescue Mission, Shawna discovered her passion for working with individuals experiencing homelessness. From there she then worked with homeless and runaway youth and homeless families at the Comitis Crisis Center/Mile High Behavioral Healthcare before receiving the opportunity to develop and supervise the first single adult shelter in Aurora. Most recently, Shawna has worked as a Grants and Fundraising Administer for the Denver Housing Authority, where she has worked to sustain and increase funding for self-sufficiency programing for low- and moderate-income individuals and families living in Denver Housing Authority housing and the greater Denver metro area. Shawna’s experience working with vulnerable populations combined with her experience in grant writing and fundraising will be an asset to Almost Home’s goal of providing homelessness prevention and promoting self-self sufficiency to Adam’s and Southern Weld County residents. Originally hailing from Nebraska, Shawna moved to Denver 12 years ago to take advantage of all of Colorado has to offer. In her spare time, she enjoys enjoys spending time outdoors, reading, running, and practicing yoga.
